Early weightbearing after first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis: a retrospective observational case analysis.

چکیده
A retrospective observational study was performed to determine if early ambulation compromised healing in patients who underwent primary first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis. The records of 42 patients undergoing 47 fusions were evaluated to determine time to radiographic union, time to clinical union, and return to regular shoes. Results showed that patients achieved clinical healing at an average of 5.6 weeks, and showed distinct signs of radiographic union at an average 6.1 weeks. The mean time for return to athletic shoes was 6.23 weeks. The patient population reviewed had a 100% radiographic and clinical union rate. These results reinforce the idea that early ambulation is a viable option in patients undergoing primary first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis.

First Metatarsophalangeal Joint Arthrodesis: A Retrospective Comparison of Crossed-screws, Locking and Non-Locking Plate Fixation with Lag Screw
Background:Locking plate fixation is increasingly used for first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTP-I) arthrodesis. Still there is few comparable clinical data regarding this procedure. Methods:We retrospectively evaluated 60 patients who received an arthrodesis of the MTP-I between January 2008 and June 2010. With 20 patients each we performed a locking plate fixation with lag screw, arthrodesis w...

متن کاملEvaluation of the Intermetatarsal Angle after the Arthrodesis of the First Metatarsophalangeal Joint for Treatment of the Hallux Valgus
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the correction of the intermetatarsal angle after arthrodesis of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the hallux. We believe that varus deformity of the first metatarsal can be corrected after arthrodesis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, without the need for proximal osteotomy. METHODS Forty-three feet of patients who had undergone arthrodesis of the first metatarsoph...
متن کاملA Multicenter, Retrospective Study of Early Weightbearing for Modified Lapidus Arthrodesis.
The modified Lapidus arthrodesis is a long-established surgical technique for management of hallux valgus that provides reproducible results and quality patient outcomes. The data from 367 consecutive patients undergoing unilateral modified Lapidus arthrodesis from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008 at participating centers were retrospectively evaluated. The included patients were categorize...
متن کاملArthrodesis and Hemiarthroplasty: Different Techniques in the Treatment of Hallux Rigidus—Surgery and Postoperative Rehabilitation
Hallux rigidus (HR) is a progressive degenerative pathology affecting the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The aim of the present study is to report our experience on the treatment of HR patients with two different surgical methods: arthrodesis and hemiarthroplasty. Twelve patients (14 HR) underwent surgery for HR from July 2004 to October 2009. Median age was 58 years (Interquartile Range (IQR...
